Are There Enough House in the Day?

I was asked the other day, actually I was told, that there weren't enough hours in the day to get everything done that needed to be done. My response seemed to offend a few people in the room at the time. I simply said "of course there are enough, you don't need as many as you have, you just need to use them properly". So why did it offend people? I suspect it had to do with the lack of care in my voice to their situations. The conversation progressed into mapping out what a typical weekday looked like for them. I will note, this was a 17 year old I was speaking with in a school classroom.

7am - Wake up

8:30am - Get to school

4pm - Arrive home

5pm - Go to work where she works part time

8:30pm - Home

9pm - Have dinner

11pm - Bed time

Depending on your view point, you may see this as a full day and happy with the results - and that's totally fine. No-one is telling you that you should change your routines in any way. If it works for you, great.

However, after finding out the routine of an average day for her, I questioned why she thinks there aren't enough hours in the day. Many of us should be able to see some gaps in time that can be utilised. For example, between the hours of 9pm and 11pm, she mentioned she spends some time on social media, along with watching TV. Again, great - if that's what you want to do, brilliant. But the problem was, she was complaining about not having enough time. It comes down to good time management really.

If I can leave you with just one takeaway from this post -

Manage your time correctly, and you'll find there's more than enough. Manage it incorrectly, you'll forever be chasing it and complaining that you don't have enough.
