Why I Wake Up Before 6am

For the last little while, I've been waking up every morning before 6am. It started with a conversation I had with a friend - they told me it would make me a happier and more productive person. How can depriving me of that precious few hours of sleep in the morning make me happier, or more productive in any way? Surely I'll just be falling asleep at my desk around lunch time? These were genuine questions I had as soon as the point was raised.

However, he had some pretty well reasoned comebacks to it, and I decided to try it.

Although, I couldn't just jump in to the idea. What happens with I wake up at 5:30am, what do I do? So, the night before, I decided to write down some things that I wanted to do before work. Here is what I intended on doing -

Make the bed

Hydrate

Exercise

Shower

Healthy Breakfast

Tidy & Organise the House

Meditate

Some admin work.

Review my To-Do List

As I had to be at work for 9am, I wasn't sure if I would get everything done on day one, so I split the tasks into an 'Essential' list and a 'Desirable' list. Looking back at it, I'm not sure why, as waking up at 5:30am is so early, I managed to finish everything here and have time left over! Big success.

My friend was right though. After only one week of waking up before 6am, I feel happier, healthier and more productive than ever. For the first few days, I found myself getting tired at work around 3/4pm, but the body got used to it by day 4. I do tend to go to bed earlier though - instead of around 1am, bedtime is now around 11pm. But if I am honest with myself, between 11pm and 1am were wasted hours anyway, as I did literally nothing with them. I will be challenging myself soon to go early - 5am, and then 4:30am!

So I will pass on my friends message to see if you can get the same results. Wake up before 6am and get a jump on the day. Let me know how you get on, I would really like to find out.
